Job purpose

Responsible for managing and supervising the maintenance operation of exterior and interior facilities including mechanical and electrical equipment, air condition, ventilation and refrigeration, plumbing, hot water system, structure, ground and landscape, energy saving, and other necessary maintenance work to maintain the property in an optimum and efficient condition without omitting the safety and comfort of guests and employees.

Duties and responsibilities

Monitor and Oversee Financial Management of the Department

  • Strategic/Business Plan development, updating and monitoring;
  • Ensures development of annual budget and cost management, within the context of the Maintenance/Engineering Operations.

Manage the Staff

  • Ensures appropriate staffing consistent with needs and within the constraints of the organization’s physical and financial resources;
  • Recruits, selects, orients and develops staff to meet standard performance;
  • Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates the Maintenance/Engineering Operations’ work plan; assigns projects and programmatic responsibilities; reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures; meets with staff to identify and resolve problems.

Develop, Plan and Deliver Programs and Services

  • Responsible for the short and long term planning and daily operations of the engineering department in order to ensure the overall upkeep and maintenance of the hotel and property;
  • Maintains and distributes system of electricity, water, gas, stream etc.;
  • Maintains and operates air condition, heater, ventilation and refrigeration system;
  • Monitors and coordinates the service performed by outside contractors in accordance to the contract, leases, service agreements and warranties;
  • Keeps all record pertaining to heat, light, power and cost of facility while the original document are properly submitted, filed, and recorded;
  • Ensures timely response to services request from the guests, employees, and management to repair or replace interior fixtures or furnishing;
  • Plans, implements and administrates energy management program;
  • Maintains appropriate equipment operating logbook;
  • Establishes annual energy reduction objectives;
  • Assists in the preparation of capital expenditures and maintenance budget;
  • Maintains adequate inventory of spare part, tools and supplies;
  • Maintains purchasing record, equipment manuals etc.;
  • Develops and implements an effective preventive maintenance procedure in accordance with professional engineering practices;
  • Trains & supervises subordinates and assist training for all employees on safety & emergency;
  • Ensures the development and amendments for all related department’s policies and procedures are kept to date and implemented;
  • Conducts continuous inspection on the building and ground to ensure the compliance with the relevant fire and safety laws.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Hotel Engineering Operations
  • Preferably certified such as Certified Engineering Operations Executive (C.E.O.E) or equivalent
  • HVAC, Air cooled chiller, plumbing & electrical experience or technical training preferred
  • EPA, CPO and HVAC certifications are a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of building and project management/engineering, with excellent and complete working knowledge of facilities within the hotel require
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable safety codes and regulations
  • Strong motivator, lead by example and demonstrating self-confidence, energy and enthusiasm

Working conditions

This position may require extended working hours and may include evenings, weekends and public holidays.
